Three Hills

Three of the seven hills stand out on the local coat of arms: Esquiline, Viminal and Celio. The Monti district is the oldest in the city, the official date in the constitutional act is May 18, 1743. Once the area was called Suburra, that is, under the city, which at that time corresponded to the area where the forums are held. It was a dysfunctional area, frequented mainly by murderers, thieves and prostitutes. But there was also a rich part of the surrounding area where the patricians lived with their luxurious houses: it was here that Julius Caesar was born.
