Jaguar

The jaguar for the Maya was a powerful symbol of ferocity, strength and courage. Since large cats are clearly visible at night, this symbolizes discernment and foresight. As the god of the Mayan underworld, the jaguar ruled the heavenly powers of night and day. Thus, he represents control, confidence and leadership. Mayan warriors in battle wore jaguar skins as a sign of honor and bravery. Maya considered the Jaguar second after Kukulkan in terms of religious significance.
