Tibetan Prayer Flags

In Tibet, prayer flags are erected in various places and are said to spread prayer when the wind blows through them. It is advisable to hang the flags on sunny, windy days to prevent damage. Prayer flags come in five colors with rotating colors as they continue. The colors used are blue, white, red, green, and yellow in that particular order. Blue is said to represent the sky and space, white for air and wind, red for fire, green for water, and yellow for earth. The writing on the flag usually represents mantras dedicated to various gods. Besides the mantras, there are also prayers of fortune for the person who raises flags.
