Symbol Aum (Ohm)

Om, also spelled Aum, is a mystical and sacred syllable originating from Hinduism, but now common to Buddhism and other religions. In Hinduism, Om is the first sound of creation, symbolizing the three stages of existence: birth, life and death.

The most famous use of Om in Buddhism is Om Mani Padme Hum, «Six-syllable great bright mantra " Bodhisattvas of Compassion Avalokiteshvara ... When we chant or look at syllables, we appeal to the Bodhisattva's compassion and instill its qualities. AUM (Om) consists of three separate letters: A, U and M. They symbolize the body, spirit and speech of the Buddha; "Mani" means the path of learning; Padme means the wisdom of the path, and hum means wisdom and the path to it.
