Adinkra symbols
Ashanti (asante - "united for war" - the people of the Akan group, living in the central regions of Ghana) often use a system of ideographic and pictographic symbols. Each symbol represents a specific word, or proverb. All symbols form a writing system that preserves the cultural values of the Akan people. This letter can most often be found on adinkra - clothing with ornaments, symbols are applied to it with special wooden stamps. Also, adinkra symbols are used on dishes, in household items, and architecture.

"Fence". A symbol of love, protection and safety. A house with a fence around it is considered an ideal place to live. The symbolic fence separates and protects the family from the outside world.

"Handcuffs". Symbol of law and justice, slavery and conquest. Handcuffs were introduced in Africa as a result of the slave trade, and later became popular with the law enforcers. The symbol reminds criminals of the uncompromising nature of the law. He also discourages all forms of bondage.
