Fish: wealth and abundance
African fishermen associated their ideas of wealth and abundance with fish, on the availability of which their lives depended. For them, the fish served as a symbol of wealth and power, domination. The figure shows a stylized image of the Ashanti catfish. In folk legends, the catfish was considered a subordinate of the crocodile.
The image of this fish is used in many African proverbs. It should be noted that in African legends, fish are not silent - on the contrary, they have a bewitching voice, falling under the influence of which people can be in their power. Such fish were considered the personification of water spirits.
