New school tattoos, modern old school

In the previous article, we focused on the main characteristics of the oldschool style. Designed around the 30s of the twentieth century, thanks to Sailor Jerry, it returned to the fore in the 70s among sailors, bikers, punks, as a symbol of belonging to the group.

It was from this style that a new trend of the 90s was born, which is becoming more and more popular among tattoo lovers - the New School.

What are the main characteristics of this style?

The subjects are mostly the same as in the old school, but they are revisited and almost annoying to make them more modern.

Extremely bright colors, black demarcation lines are even thicker and clearer. There is an almost complete absence of nuances and shades, almost phosphorescent pigments are often used, which amaze the observer.

There seems to be more freedom in the New School tattoo, which is not the case in the case of the old school, a style still very much associated with Sailor Jerry tattoos.

The old school style is characterized by simple objects, since in the past the machines used for tattooing, as well as the pigments, were of poor quality, and therefore it was risky to get complex tattoos.

In addition, the tattoos were not done by experienced artists, and choosing simple shapes ensured the best results.

On the other hand, the New School style takes full advantage of the possibilities offered by the new equipment. For this reason, in some cases, nuances and scrupulous care of objects are observed.

The selected graphics are realistic and the style resembles a cartoon. If you rely on an experienced artist, it almost seems like our tattoo is "imprinted" on our skin.

What are the typical items of this style?

Typical New School subjects date back to the marine world.

As with the old school style, anchors, swallows, mermaids, sailing ships and eagles represent the most select images.

Another much-loved subject is the pin-up, a pretty woman who shows off her sensuality and makes sailors' dreams come true away from home.

What areas of the body are most suitable for these tattoos?

These are usually large tattoos. Therefore, the most suitable areas of the body are the legs, arms and back.
