Looking to buy your first tattoo set?
In this article we will analyze what is better to choose to start with and how much it costs!
The first thing to think about is what we really need.
First, the holy trinity, that is, the power supply, cable and machine.
Power supply.
There has already been a separate article in which the parameters of this device are described in more detail. If you haven't read it yet, please -> HERE <-.
When choosing power supplies, I would first look at what kind of output current it offers. If we need a power supply that will provide stable good performance, I would only consider devices that offer 3 amps or higher.
Cheap. The cheapest option that I know is a power supply unit from our Polish company WorkHouse, which costs 270 PLN. It has a fairly convenient potentiometer (knob) and it is possible to set the voltage to 0-20 Volts. Many newbies may be intimidated by the lack of a display. However, we know what is the maximum voltage and how many turns we can make. (20 V max, 10 turns gives us 2 V for every full turn, i.e. 1 V for half a turn)
However, if you are tempted by the display, the same company offers a model for PLN 450 with a display. Despite the low price, this equipment can serve us for years. Personally, I have had such a power supply for 5 years and it still works.
Expensive. If we are on a large budget, we might consider buying a PSU that will be with us for years to come. Such. which is compact, portable and has several useful features. For about 900 PLN we can buy the Critical PSU, model Cx1-G2, it is a very small cube, also offering 3 amperes. The power supply works on both 110V and 230V, so we can travel safely around the world.
This is a digital power supply that shows the voltage with an accuracy of 0,1V. It offers some useful features like continuous work. This feature allows you to use the footer as an on / off switch. We click on the footer once and the machine runs stably and evenly without having to keep our foot constantly. In addition, it also has a button that allows you to completely drop the foot.
Wires.
It doesn't matter if we buy a cable for PLN 30 or PLN 230. It should be convenient for us. Not too heavy and with a suitable end for us - RCA, Clip-cord, mini-jack - straight or broken.
Personally, I recommend the cable from the Kwadron store, described as KABEL + RCA + JACK - HIGH QUALITY - 2M BLACK worth PLN 45. Personally, I have been using this cable for 4 years now and there are no problems.
A car.
By far the broadest topic. You can start with reel or rotary machines. Opinions are divided as to where to start. Personally, I am a supporter of learning lines with a coil. It is heavier and rattles like a tractor, but at the same time it is fragile because it has flexible springs. Less experienced tattooists will cause less harm to clients. These cars are definitely heavier, but that also means we keep the car stronger and more reliable. The main advantage of the rotary machine is its lightness, most of the "rotary" machines weigh from 60 to 120 grams, and the reels from 100 to 200 grams. It is definitely worth avoiding the heaviest cars in the beginning, because without experience it is easy to get used to them. It was an acquaintance, it was time to choose something.

Tanio... Machines of the WorkHouse brand are comparable in price to the unnamed Chinese, and the workmanship is much better!
Expensive.

Tanio... Machines available in the Kwadron store, Equalizer brand, can be cheap and reliable equipment,
Spike, SpikeMini, Pusher would be a good choice for a reasonable price, i.e. up to 1000 PLN.
Expensive.
If we had a slightly larger budget I would personally lean towards the Dragonfly. It is a versatile machine for everything, and can be used to create beautiful lines, fills and shadows. It allows you to work with frames and ordinary needles, while allowing you to work with low voltages such as 5V, the cost of a new machine is about 2000 PLN.
What we don't buy!
We categorically do not buy PEN machines in the beginning. This is an option that may seem quite appealing to newbies. It looks like a thick pen and holds it like that. However, this type of machine has many consequences. Not all machines have disposable handles. If we want to use the original pen, autoclave it after each use. As a beginner, I suspect you don't have such miracles at hand. The second problem is the obligation to use diaphragm needles, which limits the choice of several manufacturers.
The last problem is access to the pusher. Many machines of this type do not offer the possibility of sterilizing or even disinfecting the part of the machine where bacteria settle. However, if you are stubborn and you have closed eyes in front of your eyes with the inscription "PEN, Pen, Pe ...." Then at least buy a machine with disposable handles and full access to disinfect the interior, such as the InkMachines Scorpion, but the price is not low either.
Equipment used for training.
When buying your first car, you should look for used equipment, often it is up to 50% cheaper.
In the case of Coil, we can repair even worn-out cars for a few zlotys. When buying corners, we will check how the engine works so that it does not turn out that it will soon die. Buying such equipment is not a bad thing. If it turns out that the car is not suitable for us, we can resell it at a very similar price. He personally worked on a used Dragonfly X4 for 2 years. I bought it for 800 PLN in a Facebook group. The machine runs smoothly, smoothly and with great power.
Accessories.

footer - may be completely the cheapest. Especially if we are using the continuous work function, the quality of the footer is not very important. Alternatively, for power supplies without a permanent function, a switch can be connected in place of the foot. This is a button / switch that slides into the PSU's seat for the footrest.
chemistry - You need liquids for surface disinfection, skin disinfection and tracing paper translation. Dettol will be the cheapest copy paper and very efficient. We can use Skinsept for skin disinfection and Velox TopAF for the surface.
Carcasses - in the beginning I would only do black, for example, WorldFamous TurboBlack ink,
Needles - depending on our needs and what we are going to do. If we haven't made thread yet, buy 10 needles 7RL 0,35mm with 7R 30mm tubing.
Vaseline - It is used to glue cups and lubricate the skin to make it easier to remove future dirt.
Ink cups - they come in different sizes, 8-10mm will do at first.
Demineralized water - for rinsing the needle and diluting the soap.
Soap - for example, green soap from Kwadron PLN 20 for 1 liter of concentrate will last for a long time.
Sprayer - it is used to rinse the tattoo, but never touch the skin with the tip! soap with demineralized water is diluted in a low concentration, personally I do not use more than 5% soap.
Medical pads or plastic wrap... - to secure the position.
Lighting with sufficient power... “To see what we are doing, a photographic fluorescent lamp is a good start. I recommend 80 W or 125 W, with a temperature of 5500 K and a CRI> 90, together with a tripod we can buy all this for 100 PLN.
Paper towels - To erase a tattoo.
Ready-made kits for training in tattoos.
I am totally against it, especially from Allegro.
They are packed with a lot of unnecessary things. The machines in these sets are most often Chinese, as are the power supplies, which, unfortunately, produce low-quality electricity. With low current, even with a good machine, this power supply does little.

which gives us in general, 765 zloty! Instead, we have the equipment with which to get really good tattoos that, if we want to, will last us for several years. In addition, we buy accessories and if we look well, we will close for a thousand.
