A reel, revolving handle or handle is a good starting point [part 2]

Which razor is easiest to master? How do they behave while working? Does weight matter? Some answers to very important questions. This is the second part of a series on tattoo machines and is worth reading before reading. Part onewhere we looked at general specs and talked about quality and then move on to Part XNUMX - Summary.

We understand this aspect as the amount of time it takes to master the instrument. You must know what the individual items are for and how to care for the equipment. It's not about which type of tattoos we learn the fastest, because in our opinion it doesn't really matter.

Coil machine

We have already mentioned that reel-to-reel machines have many elements that, in the case of inaccurate execution, can adversely affect its operation. However, the good news is that this is usually all could be improved mostly close at hand, such as placing a washer under one of the coils to align with the other, bending a spring, or tightening a screw. Unfortunately, there is also dark side - setting up the machine for work and adjusting it requires certain knowledge that novice tattooists do not have. Adequate regulation is a difficult task, and the process certainly cannot be called “easy”.

Rotary machine and handle

Unlike reel-to-reel machines, rotors or knobs rarely have any elements that need adjustment, and even if they do, they have a special knob that will be used. very simple... But can we say unequivocally that this is only an advantage? Unfortunately no. No adjustment, no headache about whether the machine is well tuned, but that too limit... What if I want to increase or decrease the needle travel? What if we want a harder or softer beat depending on whether we are doing an outline or a shadow?

A reel, revolving handle or handle is a good starting point [part 2]

Adjustment and compatibility

When deciding on the choice of a car, it is good to realize that this issue is generally important. Working with needles on living skin, flexible and mobile, is something completely different from working with a pencil and a sheet of paper, although ... some similarities can be distinguished. To draw a thin line, we will use a sharp and hard pencil, and to paint over an area or shade, we will use a soft pencil, preferably well cut on a notebook so that it does not leave too harsh lines.

Coil machine

In this case, the regulatory issue is obvious. Each reel machine can be configured exactly as it suits us - we increase the stroke or stiffness, using the main structural elements - springs and a contact screw. Most of the reel-to-reel frames are located there. universalthat we can freely arrange them, once along the contours, once along the shadows. This requires training. What about compatibility? Well, the coil is basically automatic has no restrictions... If we want to use classic needles and straps, no problem. If we want to use modular needles, we just put on a different neck, and that is also not a problem ... as long as the machine is strong enough, which means that it is of good enough quality. Modular needle (so-called. cartridge) designed in such a way that you need to apply little force to push the needle out of the plastic housing. Maybe a little, but always. In addition, it also requires little force for the needle to pierce the skin during surgery, and the larger the size of the needle (the more individual needles are soldered together), the more force is needed. The machine must easily overcome these two resistances during operation, otherwise the work will be uncomfortable or even impossible. Cheap reel-to-reel machines made of poor materials, folded not in the best way and not yet optimally placed, usually do not cope with cartridges precisely because of the additional resistance to pushing the needle out of the body. So, if you want to try out a cartridge, this one cheap coil wouldn't be a good choice.

Rotary machine

The issue of adjustments in rotary machines almost completely depends on the specific model. V simple model there is simply no regulation and you have to accept it. Needle stroke and stroke stiffness are constant and can be adjusted universally. There should be no discomfort in contours or shadows. On the one hand, this is good because we don't have to worry about these issues at all in the beginning, and we focus on polishing other aspects that are not overlooked. However, if we move to a higher level, sooner or later we will feel that we are starting to miss something to make your job easier. It goes without saying that there is absolutely nothing we can do with such a simple rotary machine. They are available, among other things. adjustable eccentricsthis will allow us to freely adjust the needle travel. Other rotator models may have this or a similar onboard travel adjustment, although this will require price increase (sometimes quite a lot). However, it's worth exploring the available solutions and thinking about what we care about more and what less. At least we don't need to worry about compatibility - you can use it on a classic rotator. any type of needle, especially since, given the specifics of the electric motor, most models will have enough power to work with cartridges.

Handle type machine

You have to write it straight - they've got pennies biggest limitation both in terms of compatibility and regulation. The first point is now clear. The handles are only compatible with modular needles. And will you? This is also not the strong point of these machines. Most handles are not adjustable the ones that they haveusually expensive... Unfortunately, the characteristics of this type of typewriter do not allow for simple, good and cheap solutions, so if we want to enjoy the full comfort of the pen, we will have to find a compromise - no regulation or very high price. ...

A reel, revolving handle or handle is a good starting point [part 2]

A good car or an ugly one is a matter of taste. Its weight, in turn, can already have a certain effect on work. Some features should not be underestimated, because even if we do not pay much attention to them at the beginning, sooner or later they will make themselves felt, and if we do not make the right choice - they get up

Coil machine

Razor spools are spools of wire. There are a lot of wires, two coils, a metal frame ... basically, almost everything is metal. In short - reel machines are usually pretty heavy... This means that they weigh over 200 grams. Heavier models weigh, for example, 270 g, which is more than a quarter of a kilogram! For comparison: a cheap reel machine can weigh up to 130g, but the quality of the former and the latter is difficult to compare. With classic shavers, weight is important because the center of gravity is far beyond the grip point, so the shaver will pull to the side. While the razor usually rests on your hand, this does take some familiarity. For a strong hand, this will not be a problem, but there are those who are not going to fight, and we invite these people to consider a lighter rotary machine.

Rotary machine

Classic rotary looms behave just like a reel on your arm, so their weight will be the same. Important... The main difference, however, is that in the case of reels it is almost impossible to find light and high quality equipment, in the case of rotary ones this is not a problem. For example, a relatively decent rotary machine weighs 115 grams, but the other, cheaper and simpler, due to the larger motor, weighs almost the same as the reel machine.

Handle type machine

It shouldn't come as a surprise to analyze this type of razor in terms of weight because, as with most of the previous aspects, the handle is simply optimized for comfort. The center of gravity at the grip makes the handle fits perfectly in the handand the light weight of this hand does not tire. Usually the weight of the pens is in the range of 100-150 grams.
