How to draw daffodils in watercolor

I wanted to draw spring flowers, and I immediately remembered the delicate daffodils that bloom in our area among the first. In my photographs, I found suitable ones and collected five daffodils in the composition. For work, we used: French-made paper, 300 g / m², cotton 25% grain fin, White Nights watercolors, column brushes No. 5 and No. 3, domestic vodka (or alcohol), cotton swab.

With thin lines, carefully, I made a careful sketch in pencil. Then I went over all the contours with a nag so that they were barely noticeable, since the work is in delicate and transparent colors, and I don’t need pencil contours that show through the paint. Before working with paints, you can sprinkle the sheet with water from a spray bottle and blot it with a napkin so that the paint lays evenly.

I'm starting to work on the background. I take the blue color, I choose the tone that I like best according to my mood. In the process, I rotate the sheet so that the fill goes from top to bottom and does not form unnecessary smudges. This paper does not allow you to hesitate for a long time, and if suddenly there is no droplet on the edge of the fill, then the edge after drying cannot be blurred in any way. While the paint is wet, I dip a cotton swab in vodka and put dots in the places where I want to get stains. From the stick, even circles are obtained. If you keep longer, then the divorce will be greater. In general, we enjoy the unpredictability of the effect. We carefully go around the daffodils along the contour. See steps 1 and 2, 3 and 4. I'm starting to work on the foliage. I mainly use blue colors and olive (if not, mix light green and orange), yellow ocher. I do not use the green one that comes with the kit - it is easy to get dirt from it. In working with foliage, a simple principle is warm light, cold shadow. Gradually, as the first layer dries, I deepen and make the shadows more contrasting. We look at stage 5 and 6, 7 and 8, 9 and 10. How to draw daffodils in watercolor

I'm starting to work on the colors themselves. I start with the core. I use light green, which comes in the standard set, and yellow cadmium, in illuminated places - lemon. I add blue to the core in the shadow. See steps 11 and 12. How to draw daffodils in watercolor

I draw flower petals. I use dark blue, with the addition of emerald and ocher. I start with the shadows on the petals. When the first coat dries I add a second coat to add contrast. In parallel, I add the shadows from the flowers to the foliage and do not forget about the shadows from the cores on the flowers. In the lightest places I add an almost transparent layer of lemon color, in shades of emerald. We look at stage 13 and 14, 15 and 16.
