So are you interested in this trendy piercing? Before you start, here's everything you need to know about this trendy piercing for a few years now.

First of all, it is important to know: Lip piercings, like everyone else, should only be performed by a professional to avoid potential severe inflammation, skin irritation, or other damage to the lips and teeth.

How does lip piercing work?

Choose your Primal Gem: Before even entering the piercing room, you must first choose a jewelry for your lip. Upper lip piercings tend to swell, so it is recommended to start with a simple straight bar, ideally with bioflex, a material that is softer and less aggressive to the teeth than metal posts. You can vary the jewelry when the piercing heals well.

Clean and disinfect: To ensure good healing after piercing, cleaning before piercing should not be overlooked. Indeed, your piercing will disinfect the area where you want to get pierced.

Mark the area: A professional will then attach the piercing area to the lip using a sterile marker to make sure you are okay and correct if not.

Drill: Once you agree on where to get pierced, the moment you are looking forward to: piercing. The gem of your choice is then inserted using a hollow needle. And here's a beautiful lip piercing to admire!

Our post-piercing tips: If your skin is swollen and irritated right after your piercing, don't worry, slight inflammation is normal. The best pain reliever is a cold one: Gently apply a cool compress to the area to relieve pain, and the discomfort should go away within a few days after piercing.

Lip piercing: is it painful?

The level of pain obviously depends on the person, but this piercing is known to be one of the most painful, as the lip area is filled with nerve endings where pain is most felt. Although lip piercings are all the rage, if you are sensitive to pain, it is not recommended to start with them.

What are the risks?

Piercing involves getting a foreign object into your body, which is always risky. Among the accidents, we list inflammation, swelling and even loss of taste... The mouth is an area full of bacteria, in other words, an environment conducive to the development of infections. Since lip piercing jewelry passes through the mouth, there are many complications associated with it. Lip swelling is one of the most common risks of lip piercing because the gem is moving. When you play sports or just change clothes, movement can cause inflammation. Suspenders increase these risks as they often rub against the jewel.

But swelling is just one of the risks to watch out for after piercing: broken teeth, nerve damage, rubber bands wearИ speech problems are also possible.

How to avoid them?

Top quality jewelry is one of the most important precautions to take to protect your mouth area. It is recommended that you first choose a piercing made of flexible plastic such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) because it is much softer than a piercing made of metal such as titanium or steel. Correct jewelry length? The length is about 8-10 mm. Be careful, a rod that is too short can damage the enamel and cause inflammation.

How much does lip piercing cost?

The price of an upper lip piercing depends on the region and the studio. This usually costs between 40 and 70 euros. This price includes the piercing, the first piece of jewelry, and the care products you will use during the first weeks to cleanse the area. Be sure to check with the studio before making an appointment.

Changing lip piercings for the first time: which jewelry is right for me?

Once your skin is completely healed, you can finally choose a different jewelry to your liking, but not just any one.

Usually a lipstick is best for piercing the lips. This gem consists of a flat clasp located in the mouth and a rod that connects it to the gem, the only visible part of the piercing, the color, shape and pattern of which you choose. Take your pick! It is important that the plate that acts as a closure in the mouth is made of a flexible material such as PTFE to protect the gums. In addition, the leg of the jewelry should be approximately 1,2–1,6 mm thick and 8–14 mm long.

In addition to special lip rods, you can also opt for piercing rings made from flexible material, but it is advisable to consult a professional to make sure the jewelry fits your lips well.
