Knowledge of Norse mythology and symbols

Unlike the ancient Slavs, now we know well the beliefs of the northern peoples. The greatest source of knowledge about Scandinavian mythology Is a rich literature bequeathed to us by the peoples of the North.
We can also learn a lot about Viking beliefs and mythology from stones or metal plates found throughout Scandinavia. Most often they will include plots from myths , runic inscriptions or image of a deity .

Sources outside of Norse mythology are rare. It is worth mentioning the Anglo-Saxon poem "Beowulf", which explores the history of the former heroic Danes. This is the most famous text from another country, partly associated with Scandinavian mythology.

The symbols used by the ancient peoples of the North, as in other countries, were associated with religion and mythology.
Many of the symbols used by the Nords were actually graphic versions of the attributes of the gods they believed in. The ancient Vikings very often wore or adorned objects with symbols or runes. Probably, they wanted in this way to win the favor of this deity or to get at least a small part of similar abilities, such as strength or cunning. Often, symbols were also meant to protect a specific person.
