Ear piercing

People have been doing piercing since time immemorial. This is especially true for representatives of tribal cultures. This is evidenced by countless archaeological finds. Beautiful ear piercings have always been in vogue, especially among women.

Did you know that the lobe is only present in the human ear? It is directly related to the activity of the central brain. The ancient sages deliberately removed their earlobes in order to achieve enlightenment.

In European culture, piercing for many centuries periodically came into fashion, then ear piercings were replaced by wearing clips.

In the Middle Ages, it was believed that one pierced ear improved vision. Hence the fashionable trend - wearing earrings travelers and sailors... In addition, the sailors wore earrings exclusively from precious metals, because they believed that if the dead body of a sailor was thrown ashore, the money received from the sale of the earring would be enough for a worthy funeral of a person.

The ancient tradition of modernizing your own body is common to this day. Male ear piercings are no different from female ones, and we increasingly see representatives of the stronger sex with ear punctures. The piercing procedure is always present in the list of services of any cosmetology or tattoo parlor, and even many hairdressing salons.

When to get your ears pierced?

Mothers of girls are especially concerned about the question: at what age can daughters have their ears pierced? There is no single medical opinion on this score: some doctors say that it is necessary to pierce the ears of girls no earlier than they reach the age of three, while others insist that it is better to wait until 10-12 years.

Child psychologists recommend piercing the ears of children under one and a half years old, because it is up to this age that pain is not remembered and there is no feeling of fear of the procedure.

Types of ear piercings

Classic earlobe puncture

If earlier this type of piercing was performed with a needle, then a modern instrument for piercing earlobes is a special gun with a nozzle that matches the size of the earring. The pistol is “cocked”, instead of the cartridge, the earring is “charged”, and then, like a stapler, the jewelry is fixed in the ear.

Pinna curl piercing (also called Helix piercing)

The cartilage is pierced at the top of the cartilage. The hole is made with a hollow sterile small needle. If it is necessary to pierce the ear, the cartilage of which is subject to severe stress, then the gun is not used, since there is a high probability of crushing it. Pain sensations during this procedure are different for all people. The pain threshold of each person is responsible for them. After piercing, bleeding and discharge of ichor may occur at the puncture site. After such a piercing, the cartilage heals from 2 months to 1 year.

Industrial

This piercing involves the presence of two holes connected by one piece of jewelry. Most often, one puncture is made closer to the head, and the second on the opposite side of the ear. The holes are punctured with a needle, and during healing, a special type of decoration is used - a barbell. This type of ear piercing heals completely within one year.

Tragus piercing

In other words, Tragus piercing) is a puncture of the ear area, which is located immediately near the auricle. The piercing is done with a small-diameter, straight or curved hollow needle. With this type of piercing, special care must be taken when piercing. The inner tissues of the tragus are especially vulnerable to damage. The healing period is 6-12 weeks.

Tunnel

The earlobe is pierced with a needle or with a pistol, as in classic piercing, then heals, after which the hole is expanded with a special stretch and a tunnel is inserted in the form of a circle.

The modern beauty industry offers earrings for ear piercings in a huge assortment. For earlobes use:

After cartilaginous punctures of the ear, labrettes, micro-rods, microbananas with various pendants and crystal inserts are used as decorations.
For people who decide to undergo a piercing for the first time, we will tell you in detail how to care for an ear piercing after the operation.

What to do after ear piercing?

After the piercing procedure, an experienced master will competently advise you on how to care for the wounds until they are completely healed.

When punctured, a small-weight earring-stud or earring-needle is inserted into the open wound of the ear. The earring should be made of gold or silver.

There are also products made from special medical alloys that promote tissue regeneration and prevent inflammatory processes. It is categorically impossible to insert jewelry made of simple metal into an unhealed wound, since the punctured place can easily become inflamed and further lead to a purulent abscess.

It is not recommended to remove carnations within a month until complete healing, except for medical reasons.

How to treat the ears after a puncture?

At first, suppuration of punctured places will definitely be observed. You should not be afraid of such a phenomenon, because this is an absolutely normal reaction of the body, which no one has yet been able to avoid. You have to be prepared for uncomfortable sensations.

After piercing the ear, the wound should be treated with any antiseptic agent (alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, antiseptic lotion) every day for a month. Additional treatment is required when dirt gets into the wound. Cosmetologists do not recommend wetting ears with unhealed punctures. So you need to take a shower or visit the pool wearing a special bathing cap.

To quickly and correctly tighten the ear wound, as well as to prevent the inserted jewelry from adhering to the ear, you need to periodically roll the earring in your ear starting from the day after the puncture. Before this procedure, you must wash your hands thoroughly each time.

But even after the wounds in the ears have completely healed, it is necessary to change the earrings with extreme care so as not to damage the puncture sites, which, even with minor damage, can become inflamed and begin to fester. Before putting on new earrings, be sure to wipe the jewelry and earlobes with any antiseptic.

Ear piercing. How much does it heal? What to do if your ear piercing does not heal
The healing process of an ear piercing depends on the individual characteristics of each person, and also on how correctly this procedure was performed. Although modern methods of cosmetology make it possible to carry out this operation painlessly and safely, there is still a possibility of infection in the wound.

Often, this happens due to ear piercing with non-sterile instruments or piercing at home. In these cases, there may be an inflammation of the puncture sites or the formation of keloid scars.

In order to avoid unpleasant consequences, the piercing should be carried out by a salon qualified master. Only an experienced specialist will be able to correctly determine the puncture site. Sometimes we see that, for example, a lobe, under the weight of jewelry, is pulled down. This is also the result of the work of an inexperienced craftsman.

The long-term healing process of pierced ears occurs if the jewelry inserted into them is made of metal, which causes an allergic reaction in a person. No need to wear earrings for people who are allergic to nickel alloys - cheap jewelry or white gold.

There is a category of people who are allergic even to noble metals. In this case, the person who has done the ear piercing has a sore ear after the puncture, suppuration may occur, which in the future, when a microbial infection is attached, leads to a purulent abscess.

On average, a classic earlobe puncture heals from 4 to 6 weeks, but, depending on individual characteristics, the healing process can take 2-3 months.

If the ears fester after piercing for a long time, you need to seek qualified help from a dermatologist. Otherwise, the lobe may swell to such an extent that surgery is required. First of all, you should find out what is the cause of prolonged purulent inflammation. If it consists in the fact that you hastened to change jewelry in the ear until the wounds are completely healed, then you must immediately correct the mistake by inserting a medical nail back.

However, in the case of joining the inflammatory process of the infection, a more complex combined drug treatment is needed. For example, you need to treat the wounds with a solution of Chlorhexidine several times a day and lubricate them with zinc ointment. In addition, you can wipe festering wounds with calendula tincture, which has good antiseptic and soothing properties.

It is also necessary to consult a specialist if the ear does not heal for a long time after a puncture.

If there is no improvement after treatment within ten days, it is necessary to consult a dermatologist again, who will most likely advise you to remove the earrings and wait until the wounds are completely overgrown. After 2-3 months, the piercing procedure can be repeated.

You should not pierce the ears of people suffering from cystic acne, blood diseases, eczema. Diabetes mellitus is also a direct contraindication to ear piercing.
